Tommaso Starace Quartet. A favourite at Splash Point Jazz, Tommaso plays alto and soprano saxes with a bop swing and more than a dash of Italian flair. A busy band leader, he has recorded 10 albums, each showing a different side to his musical personality. Sharing the stage with him at the Fishermen’s are Terry Seabrook (keys), Nigel Thomas (bass) and Joe Edwards (drums).

Drummer Matt Skelton’s Quintet presents a night of cool jazz in tribute to Shelly Manne, one of the greats of the West Coast scene of the 50’s. Matt’s career has encompassed a diverse range of music, from playing with both US and UK jazz superstars, to appearing with the Halle, The BBC Concert Orchestra and the John Wilson Orchestra. He appears tonight with Leon Greening (keys), Mark Crooks (clarinet & sax), James Davison (trumpet) and Conor Chaplin (bass).

Geoff Mason Quartet.
One of the UK’s leading jazz trombonists, Geoff has a wealth of experience playing with Big Bands, on TV and Film soundtracks, leading his own bands and supporting numerous visiting US musicians as well as the cream of UK’s jazz stars. Chris Coull’s ‘Blues and the Abstract Truth’.
Oliver Nelson’s writing and improvising flair were brought together in this classic album from 1961, ‘a must have’ record for any collector. He also made a follow-up album which featured some of his pieces but also compositions from other composers. All arranged by Oliver Nelson. The Line-up follows the instrumentation on the original recordings. Chris Coull (trumpet), Andy Panayi (alto sax), Sam Miles (tenor sax), Alan Barnes (baritone sax), John Donaldson (keys), Paul Whitten (bass) and Joe Edwards (drums).

Freddie Gavita: ‘Freddie plays Freddie’
US trumpeter Freddie Hubbard was a star of the Blue Note record lable in the 1950’s, 60’s & 70’s, collaborating with Wayne Shorter, Art Blakey and Herbie Hancock amongst many others. UK trumpet virtuoso Freddie Gavita recreates those sounds, but in his own style. Alongside Freddie are Mark Edwards (keys), Oz Dechaine (bass) and Mez Clough (drums).

The Andy Panayi Big Band.
After their sell-out performance last year, they are back; this time with some classic music from the big band repertoire of Glenn Miller, Stan Kenton, Ted Heath, Count basie & Terry Gibbs plus other great writers from the UK and the USA.
